  EQUIPMENTS IN THE PHYSICS LAB
Newton's Ring Apparatus
It is based on the principle of interference of light in a wedge shaped film. The diameters of the rings formed by interference are measured and the wavelength of the light used is calculated.
Diffraction Grating Apparatus
This experiment is based on the principle of diffraction in a grating using a spectrometer. The wavelength of light used is calculated using this apparatus.
LCR Circuit
It is used for the determination of power factor & impedance of a series LCR circuit.
Bipolar Junction Transistor
The input, output & transfer characteristics of an n-p-n transistor are studied with the help of this apparatus.
Rigidity Modulus Apparatus
This apparatus is used to measure the modulus of rigidity of the supplied material. The stress applied on the material is varied by using weights and the corresponding strain is observed by noting the angle of twist.
Carey Foster Bridge
Based on the Wheatstone Bridge principle, it is used to find the resistance per unit length of a wire.
P-N Junction Diode
This equipment is used to find out the voltage – current characteristics in a PN junction diode during forward and reverse bias.
Equipment to study viscosity co-efficient
It is used to determine the co-efficient of viscosity of water by using the capillary flow method. The Poiseuille’s formula is used to calculate the rate of volume flow through a capillary tube.
Lee's Experiment
This apparatus is used in estimating the thermal conductivity of a bad conductor by Lee’s method. It is based on the principle that rate of heat conduction is equal to rate of heat loss.
Sonometer
This experiment is performed to verify the relation between frequency, mass, length etc. of a vibrating wire using a sonometer.
Fresnel Biprism
This experiment is used to determine the wavelength of the monochromatic source of light. It is based on the principle of interference.
Bar / Kater's Pendulum
These are compound pendulum used to measure the acceleration due to gravity. It is based on the principle of interchangeability of the centre of oscillation and centre of suspension and the distance between them is equal to the length of the equivalent simple pendulum.
